This is a very rare and hard to find made in Japan vintage Univox U1988 Gimme that plays and sounds great! There's not a lot of info about serial number dating on these guitars but this one is estimated to be from the mid 1970s and would have been manufactured in the Matsumoku Factory. The guitar has a bolt on neck and the tone woods include a maple body, slim "C" shape maple neck, and maple fretboard. Many of the parts have been replaced, including the pickups. This guitar currently sports a set of Golden Age humbuckers.
This guitar does show quite a bit of cosmetic wear from over the years that includes various surface scratches, scuffs, and dents throughout the body with additional dings along the back of the neck and headstock. The holes from the previous tuners are still visible and there's quite a bit of finish wear particularly on the back of the body. The hardware also shows normal tarnishing from over time. The frets are used but still play great along the neck and the electronics work as they should.
Almost everything has been replaced from over the years - tuners, pickups, pickup rings, pots, truss rod cover, bridge and tailpiece, and knobs.
