This Tokai Love Rock plays and sounds great! This guitar is super early in the Tokai production lineage, coming in just a year after the "Love Rock" name came to be. This one has a super comfy neck, existing somewhere between '59 and '60 territory, starting slim at 0.86" at the first fret, and thickening up to 0.94" at the 12th fret. This example comes loaded with newer Tokai Zebra humbuckers, coming in at a strong 13.4K (bridge) and 13.3K (neck). This one has a great top, exuding a tasteful flame that moves in the light.
This guitar is in really great shape for its age at over 40 years old. There is various scratches, dings, and other cosmetic blemishes throughout the finish. The hardware shows patina consistent with age, such as some of the chrome coming off of the tailpiece. The plastic output jack plate is starting to crack as shown. The frets have recently been leveled and crowned by Tom Jacobs at Jacobs guitars, they play well with life left. The 21st fret does show some lifting on the bass side, but it has been secured and leveled in place. The electronics function as they should and this Tokai is ready for many more years of enjoyment!
This guitar comes freshly set up with D'addario EXL110 (10-46) strings.
